Dear Friends,
It is that time again – Helix Water District Board Election Time! Helix Water District Board of Directors, Division 1 John Linden, Division 3 Chuck Muse and Division 5 Joel Scalzitti are up for election this November 2016. This will be Director Linden’s 5th term (Been on the Board for 16 years since 2000) and Director Muse’s 4rd Term (Been on the Board for 12 years since 2004) and Director Scalzitti 2nd Term (Been on the Board for 4 years since 2012). I was told by Director Linden and Director Scalzitti that they were running and Director Muse at a Board meeting told me he had not decided whether to run. Director Scalzitti has had a great first term in actively speaking out for the Helix customers. He has been successful in engaging staff and the board in getting the District look at the ever increasing costs and striving to keep the water rates down. He was also very successful in turning Lake Jennings Campground and Recreation around and moving toward a profit. Director Scalzitti is concerned about the bottom line and what is the best for the Customer and the District. I do know of one person who has indicated that he is running for Director Muse’s seat, Mark Gracyk, [email protected] . I also know of one person who is running for Director Linden’s seat, Dan McMillan, [email protected]. I believe that these candidates will be a good change for the Board and I support their efforts. Contact them if you have any questions regarding their candidacy and if you would like to help on their campaign. Below is information that our Helix Water District Board Secretary sent to the Board on the Candidate Process today. If you have any questions on filing, information can be found at the San Diego County Registrar of Voters website http://www.sdvote.com/. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments! As always, I welcome your comments and feedback. Blog is on my website of past meetings & comments…check it out! Kathleen Coates Hedberg, P.E., M.P.H. ** Dear Friends, Here is the link for the board package link for our Regular Helix Water District Board Meeting: AGENDA REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 2 p.m. 7811 University Avenue, La Mesa, CA 91942-0427 Interesting items: Item 6 (pdf page 49) Lake Jennings Recreation & Campground Policies & Procedures Changes Kayaks & Tee-pees coming soon to Lake Jennings Recreation & Campground! District Fees & Charges added to schedule at a public hearing on August 17. Notes: Late last month all Helix Customers should have received a yellow postcard with a note stating that Things are looking up! While, yes, the state-mandated reduction in water use for the Helix service area has been eliminated and there is no limits on days and minutes of watering...this DOES NOT MEAN - WASTE WATER! Please continue to make water wise decisions. I participated in a recent CA Save Our Water Conference Call and that California is now embracing the message of Water Conservation Statewide: The CA Lifestyle - It's for Life! Thank you for getting through the past 5 years...I think San Diego County has been doing that for a while now, investing, conserving and preparing - so it is good that the rest of the state is moving in this direction, perhaps with more water storage and water meters! So, now that we have some "extra" water right now, it is important that we focus on Save Our Water And Our Trees! And to Fix it For Good - Rethink Your Yard! Plant that water wise garden that will be beautiful now and for the future, and will get your plants through the next "drought"! Visit www.TheGarden.org for classes, tips, and how to have More Beauty with Less Water! FYI: Get Helix News delivered to your inbox...great hot off the press news!
